Jisr Az Zarqa's is the poorest Arab village in Israel.
But it has all the potential to become a tourist attraction, that provides livelihood to its residents.
what can we do about it?
Bring tourists in. Bring people together.
Back our step in the process of turning Jisr to a tourist attraction:
Ahmad Juha (43) - an Israeli arab from jisr,Israel. Entrepreneur, married +7 kids.
and Neta Hanien (34)- Jewish ,from Aviel, Israel. a lawyer , a backpacker, and a Scuba Diving instructor. married +3.
The problem: Although Jisr az Zarqa is located between two of the most popular and important tourist sites is israel, tourism in the village itself has never developed.
The local people feel isolated from sociaty, and have no livelihood options in their village.
Our project :Establishing the first guesthouse in Jisr
Our main mission is: to attract travelers to the village
Our moto is Responsible tourism: Not only do you get a more authentic experience, but your holiday benefits local people and the environment.
We consider our self as a social business and believe in Responsible tourism there for we will be:
• Encouraging, consulting and cooperating with local residents interested in establishing ancillary or similar businesses.
• Catering mainly to backpackers and independent travelers who tend to utilize local businesses in the locations they visit;
• Encouraging our guests to engage in local entertainment and make use of the village’s ancillary services;
we hope that in the future we'll be able to:
• Employ local youth and high school students as interns who will operate hostel facilities and serve as tour guides within the village and the surrounding areas
• Initiate (or take part in) more social / Environmental projects
The guesthouse will be a part of ILH-israel hostels, israel first independent hostel group, dedicated to providing quality hostels at fair and affordable prices for backpackers, couples and families. ILH mission is to support independent travelers and make your trip to Israel a unique travel experience.
The Attraction: Jisr has all the potential to become a tourist attraction.
It is an authentic fishermen village, located on one of the most beautiful beach in Israel. you can hang in the beach and enjoy the fisherman's port atmosphere, or a fresh fish meal, walk in the village and enjoy the authentic Arab atmosphere & food, and the local coffee /nargila shops...
Israel trail, which is a very popular hiking trail among travelers, is passing through the village and the guesthouse. by walking for a few minutes on the trail, you can visit two of the most importent and popular tourist sites:
Old Caesarea city and port- 30 minutes walking / 10 minutes driving: one of Israel most impressive parks housing unique antiquities from various periods. architectural remains from the hellenistis to the crusader period, caesarea was a port city and was given to king Herod by Augustus ceaser. Herod built the port . along side all the rouins there are modern cafes, restaurants, bars and sandy beach. on the beach there is the ancient acueducto that brought water to the ancient city of caesarea.
"Crocodile Stream Nature Reserve" - 5 minutes hiking from the guesthouse:
combines nature and history- an abundance of clear water, stream flora, numerous spcies of animals and impressive archeological finds.
remains of an impressive dam, built at the Roman period, from here water was conducted to Caesarea by means of the law Acueduct.
We have Ahmads building. back us and we will be able to turn it into "Juha's Guesthouse", and go ahead with our mission- bringing tourist to jisr
